Our history

The first Dutch TT on Saturday July 11, 1925 was held on a 28.4 km long circuit. Formed by the road triangle between Rolde (start/finish), Borger and Schoonloo. The Motor Club 'Assen & Omstreken' is responsible for the organization.

The 3rd Dutch TT gains the status of international races through the participation of foreign drivers, including Norton factory driver Stanley Woods from Ireland.

Change of organizational form. In connection with major investments, the 'Stichting Circuit van Drenthe' was established on June 23, 1936. The statutes state that this foundation aims to organize the 'Grand Prix of the Netherlands of the KNMV'.

The 16th TT resumes the pre-war series, due to a necessary break between 1940-1945 due to the Second World War. National races have to be started all over again.

The TT is again an international motorsport event, with renowned drivers.

The World Road Racing Championship is established by the FIM. From that moment on, the TT Races in Assen count as a Grand Prix for the World Cup points.

The 25th Dutch TT will be held on a completely new circuit. 7.7 km long and entirely on Asser territory. The races will not be held on the last Saturday in June, but on Saturday, July 16, 1955. The specially constructed circuit is also suitable for sidecar races and this class will be added to the program immediately.

For the first time in its illustrious history, the 32nd Dutch TT attracts more than 100,000 visitors on race day. The circuit is lined by 101,992 paying spectators.

Construction of a completely new accommodation consisting of a timekeeper's house, pits, as well as spaces intended for rental - so-called VIP rooms - above the pits.

Immediately after the 59th Dutch TT, the circuit will be widened from 7 to 10 meters, with the start/finish section being 14 meters wide. The new length is 6,049 km.

With the fastest lap of Valentino Rossi with Yamaha during the MotoGP race, the 2 minute barrier is broken for the first time in a race. In addition, the average speed during his record lap exceeds 180 km/h for the first time.

The 80th Dutch TT will be held on Saturday 26 June. Due to a change in the route at the Rushoek, the circuit has become 13 meters shorter and the track now measures 4.542 km.

Investments are being made again. After the Haarbocht stand, the new Winterdijk stand is the second public facility whose comfort will be increased. 9,100 bucket seats will be placed on the level of the Main Stand.

The Dutch TT has never been so well attended and sold out. At the TT edition of 2019, 167,000 racing fans entered the circuit.

On Saturday, June 26, 2021, the 90th Dutch TT was held. Due to tightened measures regarding corona, a maximum of 11,500 visitors were allowed in the stands.

The 2022 TT MotoGP was the first TT that could be organized in full glory after the corona pandemic. Full stands and frenzied audience.
